At the NSC 2019 Congress and Expo this year, held in San Diego, the National Safety Council and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration took the opportunity to announce the preliminary Top 10 Most Frequently Cited Standards for fiscal year 2019.

The deputy director of OSHA’s enforcement programs, Patrick Kapust, presented the preliminary findings to the crowd gathered at largest assembly of safety professionals in the world.

“Far too many preventable injuries and deaths occur on the job.”

Lorraine M. Martin, NSC president and CEO

According to Lorraine M. Martin, NSC president and CEO, “Far too many preventable injuries and deaths occur on the job. The OSHA Top 10 list is a helpful guide for understanding just how adept America’s businesses are in complying with the basic rules of workplace safety. This list should serve as a challenge for us to do better as a nation and expect more from employers. It should also serve as a catalyst for individual employees to re-commit to safety.”

For those of us who follow this annual report, it comes as no surprise that OSHA’s Top 10 remain fairly consistent from year to year. This consistency proves all the more reason to focus on this critical information and address our complacency as workers and employees in order to address the critical safety elements we encounter everyday at the workplace.

For the 9th year in a row, OSHAs Fall Protection – General Requirements (1926.501) tops the list. Interestingly, we also find that Fall Protection Training (1926.503) follows shortly at number 8, encouraging us all to reevaluate our practices and focus on the safety of ourselves and our peers.

The entire list of OSHAs Top 10 can be found below.
